PowerSchool Parent Access Setup
The following is a summary of an email sent by Quinn Ashton to all parents regarding their PowerSchool sign in. There are new features for parents which require you to set up a new account: A new feature is now available in PowerSchool that allows you to link all of your children to one account. This feature allows you to access PowerSchool information on all of your children using on single log on. Please visit this link for a tutorial on how to set up the account. YouTube: PowerSchool Parent Access Setup. You will need your log in information for each child and if you do not have that, a letter is forthcoming in the USPS mail. Please keep your account information secure as your parent log in contains information that may not be intended for your child.
The letters were sent during Christmas break, and if you have any further questions, please contact Quinn Ashton or your child's school.
How do I study for the ACT Test??!!
STUDENTS: You have several FREE opportunities to help with studying for your ACT test! 1. All SJHS students can access FREE ACT test preparation at their AZCIS account. 2. FREE study guides and a retired ACT test (yes, a real ACT test) is available in the Counseling Office. 3. The standards for English, Math, Reading, Science and Writing PER SCORE RANGE are not only on the poster in the Counseling Office, but also at www.act.org/standard/. 4. At www.actstudent.org, you can sign up for "ACT Question of the Day," print test questions, look up test tips, and more... all for FREE. And, if you really want to pay for something, you can purchase the online test preparation program and "The Real ACT Prep Guide" from www.actstudent.org or from www.amazon.com (for the book only).
ACT Test Dates
The following are the upcoming ACT Test Dates for the rest of this school year... All are hosted by St. Johns High School:
February 11, 2012: JUNIORS= THIS IS THE FIRST TEST YOU SHOULD TAKE!! April 14, 2012: Juniors= here is your second testing opportunity before the end of the year!! The June 9th test is NOT hosted at SJHS, but students can take the test at another host school. To register for the ACT Test and for Studying Tips, go to www.actstudent.org!!! A free study guide is available in the Counseling Office.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA is your link to college (4-year, 2-year, vocational and private) GRANTS AND LOANS. The application for the 2012-2013 year will be available on January 1st, and should be completed as soon as possible in the new year. Before accessing the new application, students need a pin number and parents/guardians can prepare for the needed information at FAFSA.GOV Note: NOT a .COM- This is a FREE application, and if you are ever asked for credit card information to complete the FAFSA, you are at the wrong website!!

AzTransfer.com is an amazing website where students can check not only the transferability of their college credits (NAVIT, concurrent, or dual enrollment classes) but students can also browse requirements and availability of numerous college majors and degrees. Hinkson Memorial Theatre Annual Scholarship Our local theatre is a non-profit organization which provides scholarships for St. Johns High School seniors in varying amounts. For students interested in the annual Hinkson Memorial Theatre (Hometown Theatre) Scholarship, you MUST volunteer at the theatre to qualify. Please contact Cynthia Blevins, theatre manager, for information.
ZGI Yavapai College Video Scholarship Contest
The ZGI Shorts Film Festival is seeking DVD format short films, not to exceed 15 minutes produced in the last year (After 1/31/11), entries for a full, in-state tuition scholarship for a one-year certificate program in Narrative or Documentary film-making at Yavapai College's Zaki Gordon Institute in Sedona, AZ. All submissions must be postmarked before or on April 20, 2012. Please stop by the counselor's office for more information and guideline information.
National Co-op Scholarship Program Do you want your piece of $4 million in scholarship money? You must have at least a 3.5 GPA and complete all admission requirements for on of the WACE Partner Institutions listed. Stop by the counseling office for more information.
US Bank Scholarship
Forty lucky high school seniors will win a $1,000 U.S. Bank scholarship. High school seniors attending a U.S. Bank Student Loan eligible four-year college or university will be selected at random. For more information visit their site.
Abbot and Fenner Scholarship Program Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with our annual scholarship program for the 4th year. We will be awarding up to $1,000 to the winner(s) each year. ASCPA Scholarship
The Arizona Society of CPA's is offering $500 scholarships to Arizona high school seniors that plan to major in accounting in the fall of 2012 at an Arizona university or community college. The deadline for the application to be received at the Arizona Society of CPAs office is February 8, 2012. To download the application click here.
Dorrance Scholarship Programs
Do you plan to attend one of Arizona's three state universities? Do you have a composite ACT of 22 or better with a 3.0 or higher GPA? Do you have financial need? Are you a leader and do you demonstrate great community service? You should check out the Dorrance Scholarship Programs. You can apply online at their website. KFC Colonel's Scholarship
High School Seniors: If you have a 2.75 GPA, plan to enroll in a public college or university within Arizona, plan to pursue a bachelor's degree, demonstrate financial need and if you are a legal U.S. citizen or permanent resident, then you need to apply for the KFC Colonel's Scholarship. You may receive a scholarship up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, books and room and board! Check out this site for more information and to apply online
B. David Scholarship (JUNIORS and Seniors!!!!!!!!!)
This Scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any post secondary institution. This scholarship is worth $1,000!!!! The deadline is May 28th 2012
The Grand Scholarship
This scholarship is worth $10,000. Participants are judged based on their initial application, on-site debates and participation during the week. Multiple students receive scholarships in the first round and the total number of students selected dictates how much each student will receive. You can apply here! The deadline is March 1, 2012.
Two June Scholarships
The Big Deal Scholarship, worth $3,000, has a June 1, 2012 deadline. For this scholarship you must be currently in Grade 12 and entering into your first year of college/university in 2012 or currently be in your first or second year. You must also submit an essay that is under 1000 words by the stated deadline. The Man Mac Automatic Scholarship will award $500 to a student who is enrolled or is expected to enroll in an undergratuate program by the Fall 2012 school year. The school must be located in the US or Canada. The deadline for this scholarship is June 15, 2012. For more information click here!
Odenza Marketing Scholarship
To be considered for this $500 scholarship you must be between the ages of 16 and 25 on March 30, 2012 and submit answers to the essay questions, which can be found on the applicationpage.
Phoenix Suns Charities SunStudents Scholarship Program
This scholarship must be completed and submitted through the Zoomgrants program located on the charities website before March 1, 2012
Midwestern University FREE health career programs
MWU-AZ Regional Brain Bee: Wednesday, February 15. 2012. Register by January 31, 2012 for the opportunity to attend. Please see the flyer in the Counseling Office. MWU Health Career Day for High School Students: Thursday, March 1, 2012 9:00AM to 2:00PM. Register by February 3rd for this interactive program that offers hands-on medical lab activities and more. See the flyer in the Counseling Office for more information. MSU Heath Careers Institute for High School Students: July 12-21, 9:00AM-4:00PM daily. This is an in-depth heath career exploration for high school students 17 years of age or older. Applications are found here. There is also a flyer in the Counseling Office for more information.
Buick Achievers Scholarship
The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program would like to encourage the following Seniors to apply: Seniors who plan to enroll full time at a four-year college or university in 2012/2013 and those who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. You may be awarded up to $25,000 per year. Visit their webiste for program details and the online application. Your application must be in by Feb. 29, 2012.
Summer 2012 Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program
"The JBMSHP is an intense academic program allowing students to reside on the ASU Tempe campus for a six- to eight-week summer session while enrolled in a university-level mathematics course for college credit." For more information please stop by the counseling office. The deadline for applications are due March 2, 2012.
Gail Goodel Folsom Memorial Scholarship
NALS of Arizona is awarding a scholarship in the amount of $250.00 to an individual who is currently working in the legal field, or is pursuing or plans to pursue a career as a legal support professional. Please stop by the Counselor's Office to pick up an application. Your application must be postmarked by March 15, 2012.
SRP 2012 University Scholarship
MISSION
The mission of the CGS University Program is to encourage high school students of CGS employees and students of St. Johns High School & Round Valley High School, and past CGS scholarship recipients to continue their education in a University. This helps fulfill CGS’s community responsibility and supports SRP’s Corporate objectives. ELIGIBLE TO APPLY
To be eligible for the Dependent Scholarship, candidates must be dependents of employees below salary grade level 57 who will be full-time students (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) at accredited colleges and university-level educational institutions.
Recipients must have, and maintain a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Preference will be given to students enrolled in degree programs that will complement SRP's Generation Business, including Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Machinist, Mechanical, or similar trades. Current SRP employees are not eligible to apply. Recipients must be legally authorized to live work in the U.S. PROGRAM
The CGS University Scholarship Program is part of the Salt River Project Scholarships Program. It will be reviewed for approval by the SRP Scholarship Committee. Assistance will be awarded annually to eligible applicants.
VALUE
Scholarship assistance varies from $500 to $3,000 per year.

Fleischer Scholars Program (JUNIORS!!!)
The Fleischer Scholars Program will be June 10- June 15 at the ASU Tempe Campus. 40 future business high school students will be selected to attend this week-long residency where they will be exposed to business education, university prep, personal and professional development and careers in business. To be eligible you must:
Be a senior during the 2012-2013 year
Express interest in business or have taken business courses
Traditionally underrepresented, economically disadvantaged and/or first-generation college student
Would especially benefit from the exposure to the business school, university and career opportunities offered through the Fleischer Scholars Program.

Girls State
Girls State is open to juniors girls who are up to a challenge and meet the requirements of the program. "Girls State is strenuous, both physically and emotionally; therefore, ability to adequately cope with these conditions should be seriously considered." The purpose of Girls State is to "1. Emphasize the importance of government in modern life. 2) Educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. 3) Awaken a sincere conviction that a well informed, intelligent, participating citizenry is vitally needed to protect and preserve our American institutions and our democracy." ASU Hispanic Business Students Association Scholarship
To be eligible for the HSBA $1,000 scholarship you must:
Be an Arizona resident,
Be Hispanic or Latino,
Be an incoming freshman,
Be admitted to Arizona State University,
Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at ASU for the 2012-2013 academic year,
Must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on at 4.0 scale,
And of course be a business student!

Boys State
Boys State will be held at NAU June 3rd through June 9th 2012. For more information please see the counseling office.
S.A.M.E 2012-2013 Scholarship (Engineering)
The Phoenix SAME Post will be awarding one $5,000; one $3,000; and three $1,500 scholarships for Fall 2012. Students must be a U.S. Citizen, an Arizona resident, be accepted to attend an institute of higher learning in the State of Arizona or be a 2012 attending freshman or sophomore enrolled in a course leading to a degree in engineering or a similar field that may have an application to Engineering, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, a completed application, and a recommendation by school faculty or a member of the Phoenix Post. For more information and an application please stop by the counseling office. This scholarship application is due April 13, 2012.
Catching the Dream The Catching the Dream Scholarship is open to any Native American high school student. Please visit their website for more information. The site also provides other ways to find more scholarships so you can attend the college of your dreams with little to no out of pocket expenses.
Vancouver Restaurant Scholarship and Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship
Both of these scholarships have May 30, 2012 deadlines and the applications can be found HERE! The Vancouver Restaurant Scholarship is worth $500. You must be between 15 and 21 as of the deadline, be a full time high school or college student during 2012 and you must answer the essay question on the application page. The Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship is worth $5,000!!! You must be under 25 years old as of the deadline and currently a senior in high school or a first year college student.
